Yeah, I went through something similar myself when I was going into college as a freshman. I (of course), thought that I was the greatest thing since sliced bread and wasn't really open to any new ideas. But once I realized that my teacher (the wonderful John Jones) wasn't trying to make me into a version of him, things were terrific. My advice to you is keep an open mind when you enter lessons. Try what he/she says, if you like it and the results are good then run with it, if not, then calmly tell him/her that and try something else. Truely great teachers do not want you to play just like they do, but they want to give you the tools they've learned to help you find your own voice.
