It depends. Figure around $110 basic cost for each piston valve (I'm not sure what the folks at Anderson are charging nowadays), plus whatever it takes in the way of disassembly and assembly and lapping-in. On an expensive instrument, this isn't much, but on a $500 beater, it's a deal-breaker. On a $1000 instrument, it figures significantly. For a $8000 instrument, it's in the noise.

The biggest problem is trying to determine how a horn with horribly leaky valves actually plays. Using a heavy valve lube like fishing reel grease can sometimes give a good idea, but it isn't foolproof.
