I'll agree that a lighter-constructed instrument makes for more sound felt by the player. But on the matter of braces, you run the risk of having a tuba where various branches tend to resonate strongly at specific frequencies, giving you a warped idea of what's coming out of the bell. I'd rather have 'em braced so they didn't do that.
But, like playing a bell-front tuba, you CAN get used to playing the heavy Willsons; your senses do adjust eventually.
