The following was cut and pasted from another thread. I had ask in response to this if this principle, if true, would apply to piston valves also since it was in reference to rotory valves. I am in reference to venting the valves to "smooth out slurs". I really didn't get an answer to my question. Can someone help hear?



According to Matt Walters, it can also assist in smoothing out slurs, by decreasing the interruption to the airflow through the valve when the rotor turns. Without the venting, air pressure builds up in the valve when the rotor turns. The vent decreases or eliminates this pressure build up.
