I've known Gil since high school here in Nashville and he's the first person that I'd heard of to own his own tuba. I think he was playing his HB-2P on the 4th, hard to tell from the distorted quick TV shots. He just purchased his former teacher's original Holton CC, which plays like a much smaller horn. He also plays a Willson Eb. The typical weak TV mix didn't do justice to the symphony and Gil's huge sound although they all played well.

As an aside, did anyone catch the no-no the trumpet player w/ National Sym. displayed? They played John Williams' Olympic fanfare w/ JW comducting and w/ the Army's Herald Trumpets, which sounded great until toward the one of the sym.'s trumpet players came in too early returning to the theme. JW of course heard him and cued him back on track. The mix sounded much better on their show.
