I threw my Gigbag in the bin, don't ever buy a Caradice gig bag, they suck.
On a more positive note, a friend of mine who had a Reunion Blues bag left his tuba in the bag lying in front of his car while he was chatting, forgot to put it in the car and drove off pushing his horn along the road (only a few yards!). The instrument was completely undamaged and the Gig bag escaped with minor scuffing.
I wonder if anyone makes gig bags with kevlar reinforcements - seems to me that would be the ideal material.
