IT's great to know that us right-wingers are destroying the arts by, God forbid, telling people to pay for what they want, and not forcing people to pay for what they don't want. You want to talk about freedom? Pork-barrel legislation is out of control. Bush doesn't seem to be doing much to control it, but that doesn't make republicans responsible. Clinton encouraged wasteful taxing and spending.

True right-wing views would say get rid of the pork and hold off subsidizing the orchestras. Capitalism works, when given the chance. But if you socialize some stuff,a nd leave the rest to capitalism, the who thing falls apart, because there's no standard.

To move this back to music. How many grage hard rock screamo bands or teenybopper bands come and go? Many of my friends are really into death metal. But death metal bands don't last long. Let's crunch some numbers. I'd wager that per capita the orchestra scene has better job security than rock music.
