In 2001 I sent a survey out to 191 professional tubists from across the country to find out information regarding the skills and repertoire expected of a tubist entering a collegiate program. I received replies from 85 people. These are the top five answers to the question: What solo pieces should a tuba player have played by the time they reach college?
1. Haddad - Suite for Tuba (42 votes)
2. Bach/Bell - Air and Bouree (38 votes)
3. Hartley - Suite for Unaccompanied Tuba (20 votes)
4. Marcello/Little - Sonata No. 1 or Sonata No. 5 (20 votes)
5. Hindemith - Tuba Sonate (15 votes)
