Somewhere I read that a remedy for trumpet worked as follows. The player was to suspend the trumpet by strings and without touching their horn, try to produce their sound with very light pressure against the mouthpiece. I'm not sure how this would work with a tuba. One might try producing a sound with just the mouthpiece. You can cover the shank end of the mouthpiece partially with your finger to produce some backpressure while experimenting with this. Just a couple of off the wall ideas.
