There are written books and built careers on this art, so a good answer is not to be given within the framework of a posting.
First of all make sure to obtain a thorough knowledge of the full implications of any given chord symbol.
Start out playing a very simple two-beat bass line on the root of the chords. You will very soon feel the urge to put the "right" notes in between and to substitute the root with other chord notes on some of the beats. From there on it is mostly a matter of refining the art through under inspiration from the listening to competent players.
You will soon realise that they use a lot of "wrong" notes not told of in the chord symbols. Not just any wrong notes, but some with a strong affinity to the chords in question (cues: leading notes from below and above, tritone substitutions).
