I do a lot of work with a tuner. But I'm not absolutely convinced that a tuner hears pitch the same way humans do. I wonder if the harmonics can skew the perceived pitch in the tuner in ways it wouldn't "out front". I don't know.

What I do know is that pitch in an ensemble is a dynamic thing, and the tuner's concept of pitch is static. So, it's okay for checking pitch at the start of the day, but not okay for checking pitch in relation to the ensemble during play (or even during tuning).

There are many times when my tuner tells me something differently than do my ears, and I just don't know what to think.
