be careful not to try to solve all the students problems at the first lesson. I usually just pick one item or problem to focus on for that week. In fact I may not even say too much at the first lesson, unless it is a real serious or obvious problem. Assign a specific lesson or etude and see how it comes back the next week. That will give you a better idea of the students abilities.
Also don' try to impress the student with all the fancy terminolgy or your playing or your new horn. Be sure you are on their level and develop a rappore (sp?).
