It is interesting watching people at shows with mouthpieces. First off there are the trumpet players, especially the screach guys who will try every small mouthpiece screaching and driving everyone nuts. They go from booth to booth. The reason I don't do trumpet shows anymore!

There are those players who try every mouthpiece looking for the holy grail, foutain of youth or both. They want a mouthpiece to correct everything they do wrong. Doesn't work that way, the signal you send in is not going to improve by a mouthpiece (or horn).

Once I did a brass band show and a conductor was asking a manufacturer for a horn/mp combo that all players would have dark sounds, full range, and all dynamics. Of course this would be for nine players!

I guess I didn't tell you what a mouthpiece can do but here are some true stories from the exhibit hall trenches about what not to look for with a mouthpiece.
