I use hunting earplugs available from the sporting goods section of Walmart. They are a latex bodied plug with a metal and ceramic filter contained inside. They only deaden the highest frequencies, as opposed to cheaper plugs which will muffle all frequencies.

They don't affect your own perception of your sound very much (as opposed to other plugs which sound like you've got your fingers shoved in your ears). In fact, I have found in some circumstances that I could hear the other instruments BETTER in an orchestra with these plugs in.

The best part is that they are about $8 a pair. Buy two.
