Not everything is based on logic, something comes out of a tradition.

I once tried a rather leightweight Miraphone 3+2 piston euph with a long semitone in the 5th valve tubing. This instrument took a bassbone mpc.

I have just aquired a very heavy de Prins euph with the same valve lay-out. This instrument takes a tenor tromb mpc.

I can not say, where the inspiration for that layout comes from. But by trying the de Prins it however struck me, that the valve lengths are very similar to that of a single Bb horn with F and stop valves, 5 valves in total.

The picture shows the de Prins. The serpent slide is that of the 4th valve.
