Klaus, you're buying into the coporate propoganda. I have no doubt that it is possible to have some sort of interchange format. MIDI isn't it, because that's not what MIDI is supposed to do. Neither is PDF, which is representation of a document, not music.

But there is XML and NIFF. Finale used to produce and fully document ASCII ETF files. I suspect it was sheer business strategy that caused them to drop that format.

The link below describes a relatively new music interchange format that should do the job just fine. I think we both could do a service to the music community by asking Coda and Sibelius where their support for Music XML is.
