A comparison would be to look at Bass Trombone development! The dependant system is rare in new instruments.

I have a 1937 original York CC that I'm adding a 5th valve to. It is going after the tuning slide, like it's big sisters!

John Fletchers Holton in question had a valve added in the leadpipe and was unsuccessful. That's why he had it taken out. His original Holton was built with a 5th valve at the factory and still has it. THe 6/4 Yorks, the 6/4Hirsbrunner and 6/4 Nirschl and all the MW 21X5's all the B&S CC's all have them. I think that a little give in response for the sake of better tuning is a good thing.
