Absolutely not. Slurring everything and avoiding the use of the tongue will help to develop proper air flow. The tongue often gets in the way when the objective is to develop this aspect of one's playing. To argue over whether or not to slur these exercises seems pointless, particularly if you are going to use the historical context of the original composition to strengthen your rhetoric. One should utilize these exercises in such a way as to develop the aspect of one's playing that is lacking. For myself, I play these exercises to develop my air flow, singing quality, melodic interpretation, and range exercises (three different octaves). Slurring everything helps me to best develop these elements of my musicianship.
