It would make the most sense to look at all the prices and get the sense of what pro tubas cost in those days, just as I looked at all the prices of modern tubas to get a sense ($10K) of what a modern pro tuba costs. I'd bet that those Yorks in 1923 were pretty close to that value. They certainly were not a small fraction of it, which is what it would take to equalize the real value.
