Probably fewer than 100 of these vintage Heckels change hands annually (wild guess) and virtually never on eBay. Still, 100 instruments can serve a fairly large number (annually) of conservatory graduates - even world-wide.

My best guess is that there will be no bidding, but somebody (or several somebodies) will fly to where the bassoon is to give it a serious trial. I would predict that it will sell for at least $25K...more if there is an ("off the books") bidding war between interested parties who later will have become intimately familiar with the instrument and desire ownership.

Again, I think the seller is simply using the listing as an "advertisement" for interested parties to see.

Again, the topic isn't bassoons, but comparisons of the ways serious consumers view their aquisitions and the weight given to "price".
