I talked with Harvey Phillips years ago and, if memory serves as a source, Harvey said that when the York factory went bankrupt (?) all of the tuba mandrels were sold as scrap iron. He said he toured the factory and the mandrels were just laying in an oil pit covered with oil and gunk. With the mandrels and blueprints lost, a real copy is not financially feasible.

Having the name is one thing but having the York design is the real secret. I understand that Nirschl measured the York CC, I don't know how faithfully he reproduced or how accurate he was but the horns have had varied success.

I hope I have paraphrased Harvey accurately. Anyone else heard these comments from him?
