When you practice more and more consitantly, you start to notice smaller and smaller problems with your playing. It got to the point with me where I would just cuss myself over things in lessons that my teacher claimed to be unable to hear. When you take breaks from playing though, you don't notice these things anymore, and you only think you sound better than usual. It fits in with the other 99% of playing that is mental.
Just for these reasons it is good to take a day or two off if you start to get frustrated.
