It makes no difference what horn you play your college audition on. I did mine on BBb and did just fine. Email me if you want details about this

Get the best teacher that you can find to help you in your playing and your horn selection. This person doesn't have to be a tuba player...it would be nice, but if it's not an option, simply find the best musician.

Consult with a your teacher about switching to CC. Just shop around, try everything that you can, and take your time. I don't really want to get into the whole CC vs. BBb thing again...check the archives if you are unsure of what I'm getting at.

Find a horn with the sound you want. It's all about the sound. My horn looks really bad to a lot of people (lots of worn silver), but I see past that into the way the horn plays and sounds. Some of the best tubas I've ever played were also some of the worst looking horns around.
