I recently posted a thread about a Mahler 2 w/ Rattle and the CBSO. The tuba player played an EEb and sounded as good, if not better than alot of brethren that are engaged in the on going arms race of tubas. I think the EEb can be used in most performing situations, it certainly seems to have the sound. I wish it could be verified in a percentage form how much of the time Fletcher and the rest of the lads in England stray from their beloved EEb's and try to continue the homogenization of brass sound that makes music a little vanilla, at least to my ears. I know that Armeggedon will be coming when the horns in Vienna don't play their wonderful Vienna instruments. That, truly, would be a shame.
