Thanks for the french horn explanation. I've always wondered exactly how the horns are piped.

So, am I correct in thinking that my compensating euph "effectively" uses the same tube lengths as the horn? That is, when I lock down my compensating 4th valve, I activate the same length pipes as the F side of the horn and when I unlock the 4th valve, I activate the same length pipes as the Bb side of the horn.? Are the two different horn sides "bored" differently?

My next questions is, how is the horn typically played? Are the lower notes typically played on the F side and higher notes on the Bb side? Or is it a matter of the key that it is being played in, or convience of fingerings? Thanks (I've always wondered . . . ),
