One of my first teachers-Don Heeren, played BBb in the Denver Symphony (now Colorado) and had played extra and sub with Chicago Symphony a fair amount on that BBb Conn. When I was buying a Rudy years ago Mr. LaGasse told me that the BBb was better with the trombone section in an orchestra. Later when I bought Jake's BBb Holton I simply re-learned the excerpts and have never looked back. Don Heeren played BBb because of the wonderful sound and it's resonance being like Jake's York. Yes the Germans especially sound terrific as they do on rotary valve trumpets for example. The sound in the head will always come through the instrument.
