Good comments about the Falcone judging. When the competitors are close in ability, my guidelines to the judges are to look for the individual finding the story and the song in the music and conveying that message confidently. When it is very, very close I tell them to think of Leonard Falcone's gifts as a player and teacher: a warm passionate (but contolled) sound with a message. The advice of an earlier respondent was accurate; one or two missed notes won't hurt you if you're really delivering the goods in the music. Too many missed notes, as in any audition, mar the performance and convey to a panel that you are either; not in control of your nerves, not totally prepared, or unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the style/message of that particular piece. Bottom ine---cover all the bases.
