I especially agree with Ed and Jay. I've played the Prokofiev many times, as a suite, and as the full length ballet, a very long night (or afternoon) even longer back to back on weekends. You need to think in terms of the best quality and clearest sound you can get, at a lower dynamic perhaps, whatever dynamic gives you the best quality clarity, then gradually ramp it up, carrying the quality and clarity along. And you need to be patient with yourself while you do this. Mouthpiece playing in the concerned register will help greatly. And not just droning down there. Play real music, including the passage in question.
