My concern with hot glue is that it might let go at some point. I have found that it is not that strong, and its strength tends to degrade over time. Soldering would require removing the lacquer from the valve caps, but on the pro Miraphones these are nickel and won't look too bad even after they attract a patina. And they are not open to view. I would expect that the Monsterweights, however applied, would look better than steel nuts of similar dimension, and being nickel plated they would be easier to solder. But they are more expensive, too.

If you stick (so to speak) with the steel nuts, and don't want to fire up the torch, then I would stick them with epoxy rather than hot glue. The consequences of 8 ounces of steel becoming a projectile in the vicinity of a brass tuba do not bear thinking about.
