I would suggest trying to audition for sub lists for orchestras within a two hours drive of where you live or go to school. These auditions are not as competitive as a national audition. If you win one then you can put that you are on the sub list on your resume. Then you will hopefully get a chance to play with that orchestra. Another thing is to audition for summer programs that are tough to get into such as Aspen or Tanglewood.
