It takes quite a church to hold a 64-foot pipe.

For those of you who ever visit Our Nation's Capital, make room in your Sunday schedule to visit the National Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue. On Sunday afternoons at 5:00 or 6:00 (call ahead), the church provides a free organ recital. If you get there early, you can sit in the choir loft with the organist, among rather than in front of the pipes. The Skinner organ at the National Cathedral has a fabulous sound--complete with 64-foot basso diapason pipes. And the church itself is one of very few traditionally constructed Gothic cathedrals in the U.S., and well worth the visit for anyone architecturally inclined. Just get in a cab and say "National Cathedral" in whatever foreign accent is sported by the driver and he will take you there. Parking is next to impossible.
