Which reminds me of a time long ago when I was an auto mechanic at an upscale repair shop that specialized in European cars. We had two posted labor rates--$25/hour and $33/hour for Mercedes, Cadillac, and BMW. (The amounts tell you how long ago it was.)

One fellow brought in a Jaguar. He was not charged the higher rates, and he asked why. "After all," says he, "the Jaguar must be more difficult to repair than a Mercedes or BMW."

"They are," I said, "but British car owners expect to have problems and expect to pay mechanics for their work, and Mercedes and BMW owners are in denial that their car should even need work." The different rates were because of the owners, not the cars.
