Whitney:

Good question. Thanks for providing some background on your level of experience.

1. Right now, range-wise you probably should be able to play from low F (4 ledger lines below the staff) to F in the staff (4th line from the bottom), or about a 3-octave range. This will help in selecting literature.

2. Buy in bulk. Some of my personal favorites:

Rubank Concert/Contest Collection (If your band has a Smart Music system, I think Coda music has practice cartridges for this collection.)

Hal Leonard Intermediate Solos for Tuba (ed. Dan Perantoni - comes with a practice CD. Can't miss.)

Canadian Brass Solos for the Beginning Tuba Player (ed. Charles Dallenbach - anything Canadian Brass or edited by Dallenbach is good stuff.)

Also, check jwpepper.com. Their list of tuba solos is cross-referenced with state solo lists.

Hope this helps,

Scott
