I've used Dawn on horns that had Hetmans oil in them without such a buildup. But I've also found that Dawn dulls a fresh polish job on brass, so now I use something milder, like Ivory, even though it doesn't do as well removing the grease.
This I know: $110 is not a lot of money for a chem clean, which should include replacing valve felts and aligning the valves, and replacing the water-key corks.
