Angela, don't worry too much. If you have only been playing for two years you may have to work a few more years to get a characteristic sound. I switched from trumpet to tuba in 8th grade and I don't think I produced a real mature sound until my sophomore year in college! That's seven years! It takes a lot of practice and hard work. oh, I have heard a couple of high school students with gorgeous sounds but they usually started playing in 3rd or 4th grade and they are the exception, not the norm. Just devote ample time to practice and try to get as many geat tuba player's sounds in your mind as possible. Ask your folks to drive you to hear a rehearsal by your nearest professional symphony and listen closely to the tubist. You will be inspired as well as get a good sound concept in your ear.
