My Miraphone had the same linkages, and they were worn out. I replaced them with exactly what Sam described, but I had to work on it a bit to avoid interference between the socket and the stop arm. I might have considered buying new stop arms with a more favorable shape, but that would have been cheating.

So, the white plastic uniballs can wear out, even with the adjustment ability they have. But the turned rods are elegant, and I wouldn't replaced them unless they needed it.

And, one addition to Sam's description--if you put a brass tube, 1/8" diameter works nicely, cut to length, over the threaded rod connecting the sockets, the result will be much prettier and more like a factory modification.
