You could try switching to sax-or maybe treble cleff baritone (some of these have more than 3 valves so you might have to read those little lines anyway), or maybe take up drums (hardly need to read music at all, cept mayby to know which dymanics to ignore at any given time). If none of those suggestions are acceptable, then just give it time. I mean it IS a tuba, and we really are expected to play all the notes (even the really low ones). The more you do it, the quicker you will instantly recognise the notes. It is fair to cheat and write in the notes that give you trouble (I challenge any director to tell the difference between a player who writes in names/fingerings and those who don't).Get some of the low etude books (the ones that are written low, not just reading stuff down), get frustrated, then get over it. It will come with time. No easy fix (cept maybe the drum thing)!
