Whew!
That last post seemed a trifle long winded. I beleive the answer to your question
is a little less lengthy. If someone was telling you that the standard North American
Euph is a 'C' instrument, they were mistaken. The music you read (in bass clef)
may have corresponded to the standard piano tones of 'concert pitch' (ie: written 'C'
is the same as the note on the piano of 'C'), but the fundamental pitch, that is to
say, the note your euph is designed to play at lowest pure open tone (as opposed to false
tones) should be Bb on the standard North American Euph. On a 'C' Euph, the lowest
pure open tone will be a 'C' on the piano, and all corresponding notes should be
designed to be tuned relative to that pitch, as most brass are designed to be
tuned in a relative tuning. There is a much more involved explantion for all this
but suffice it to say, that on a Bb instument, Bb is the fundamental (lowest open
pure) tone, and on a 'C' instument, the fundamental is 'C'.

I guess that's not much less winded than before!
