I have used my modified Mirafone 186 CC (has a Mira 188 leadpipe) exclusively for the last 20 years. In that time I have not found a single gig that the horn was not suited for.

The only thing I don't do regularly (if at all!) is solo work. With the range of most "good" solos that have come about in the last 2 decades, I would probably give in and get a "big" F tuba if it turned out that someone wanted me for solo work on a regular basis (yeah, right!) I suppose if I did more standup work (Dixieland, etc.) I would want a really good Helicon...

With the new mouthpiece (PT 88 Mega) that Dan Perantoni put me onto last weekend (Symphonia at Brevard...truly an awesome experience!), I can now get much closer to a 5/4-type sound as well... Boy am I pumped!
