The "tuba" family, from the "ground up" consists of any and all of these instruments:

contrabass (BBb and CC) tubas

bass (EEb and F) tubas

tenor (Bb) tubas [euphoniums, baritones, blah-blah)

alto (Eb and F) horns (Easily distinguishing these from French horns, these are NOT instruments with 12 to 13-1/2 feet long "bugles", but rather 6 - 6-1/2 feet long "bugles".)

flugel horns* (same length as a trumpet) - One could call this a "soprano tuba".

*I would put the flugel horns in the TUBA family for two reasons:

-the wide-flairing "tuba-like" taper of their "bugle"
-the fact that the fundamental overtone IS playable on these instruments
