Bach B Minor Mass- Shaw/Atlanta. Not a tuba within 10 sqaure miles, but more music, passion, and down-right beauty than humans deserve sometimes. The GREATEST piece of music in Western Civilization.

Beethoven 9 Symphonies Karajan/BPO 1963. The benchmark against which all music should be held. The playing is stupendous and the music is otherwordly. Oh yeah, no tuba here either.

Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet BSO/Leinsdorf. Although hard to find, this recording is the best representation of orchestral tuba playing ever committed to tape. If you want to know how an orchestral tuba player needs to sound and want to know what the elusive "Alex Sound" is all about, listen to Chester lay waste to the "Montaques and Capulets" depth charges.

Oh yeah, anything from the CSO without Solti conducting is a must.

Chuck
