Matt Perrine left Sacramento, CA and went down to New Orleans, LA in the early 1990's
and did pretty well for himself playing tuba in "dixieland bands" and "brass brands".
Check out the albums by the brass band, the New Orleans Nightcrawlers
("Funknicity" and "New Orleans Nightcrawlers"), as well
as an album by Ray Anderson ("Ray Anderson's Pocket Brass Band").

As far as fakebooks, check out the "Dixieland Fake Book" put together
by David W. Littlefield on the following site:

It standard dixieland repetoire, and the keys are what you'll find most bands playing.

Also, if you make it down to New Orleans, drop by Donna's Bar and Grill.

Stop by on a Monday... Donna may be able to hook you up with somebody that's
looking to put together a band for a couple of gigs.....
