I don't get this: I have a PT-49, and it looks pretty cup-shaped...even bowl shaped, to me. I'm not even looking at the external shape, but compared to my Wicks and Schilkes (Funnel shaped), the PT-49 becomes rounded before the throat considerably.
The official literature agrees with you: I always thought it was a (rather serious) misprint).
Ian (luckily I bought the PT-49 after playing it, and not from specs, so I knew what I was getting!)
