Have you had your tonsils removed? I don't have this trouble playing euphonium, and didn't have it playing tuba years ago, but I do have it when chewing gum. This may sound silly, but I used to get terrible sore throats, and this was because I never had my tonsils removed. If you are really tonguing vigorously, you may be straining your throat in the same way I do when chewing gum (which is why I NEVER chew gum). Try tonguing less vigorously, and see if this improves the situation.
