I have used the technique of singing into my tuba while playing with slight success. I forget what this is called, I think mulitphonics. If you play the root of a chord and sing the fith above it, you can hear the third of the chord above the fifth. This has been used by horn players in cadenzas and I heard a jazz trombonist perform an unaccompanied song in this manner. Remember, practice makes better.
