When York chose to have B&M (Nirschl to day) to make their Master BBb model, then they did not take the usual stencil path. They were not exploiting their name by having some cheap line made for them.

When contract issues made the B&S conglomerate engrave my Hoyer horn B&S, then they really tried to sell it under a less prestigeous flag, at least hornwise. (See a recent posting of mine).

When Bach is putting their stamp on a Yamaha 321, they at least do have the good taste to avoid the Stradivarius engraving. I have accepted the Bach Mercedes trumpets. Even allowed student to buy them. But the general Bach impression on me is pointing a few notches higher than that of the yamaha 300 series.

Stenciling cuts both way. Yes, but a cheaply made horn with a prestigeous name is a bit more fraudolous in my eyes than is a really well made instrument with a name from the same league.

Owning a York Master, which is not equalling "being master of a York".
