At the last Marine Band audition, the holding room was crowded and therefore hot and smelly. By the time guys got to the finals the coats were gone and these 5 were left with shirt and trousers (no women finalists, don't know what the equivalent would be). Ties were also not worn as it was probably constricting. Personally speaking I had no objections to any of the finalists' wardrobe. I think the term "PRESENTABLE" is what should be used here. Never seen anyone at an audition wearing a tux(I'm SURE I'd remember that!) Coat and tie should be fine in any audition situation(correct me if I'm wrong) and I doubt any committee would get bent out of shape if you removed the coat and loosened/removed the tie for legitimate comfort reasons.
