That's cool, I respect your experiences, whoever you are. I'm curious though, when you say that the 186's you've played have been "incredibly consistent", do you mean from an intonation standpoint? I would agree with your statement if you were speaking from a sound quality standpoint because every 186 I've ever played sounded almost identical to me. But I have played some that have really serious intonation problems and other that didn't. That's why I said in my original post that most manufacturers have their good and bad days. One of the schools I teach at has a 186 that has terrible intonation which is absolutely not representative of most Miraphone tubas. I'd also be curious to know which model VMI you play and what you think about the comment another poster made about the VMI tubas not holding up over time. Any thoughts?
