I certainly agree about the multi-mike era that spoiled what could have been some great recordings from about 1970 through the late 80s. But as a separate issue, I feel that once provincial, insular, and hide-bound European musical centers are far more cosmopolitan than they were before WWII and the immediate postwar period. It's no longer necessary to excuse brass, especially low brass, their former clinkers, questionable intonation, or technical problems to artistic license or regional style. The current generation simply PLAYS BETTER, and the best ones could play anywhere.
