If you mean the Tyrell 40 Studies for B-flat bass: 1)practice the etude more slowly than the indicated tempo at first; as slowly as needed for accuracy and clarity. 2)make sure the longer (mostly quarter notes) at the end of each four measure phrase are held out full value. 3)use a metronome; make sure the 16ths and triplets are exactly in tempo. 4)practice the higher phrases down an octave at first in order to hear the intervals accurately. 5) when you're doing all of the previous well, increase the tempo to what's ,marked,(108=quarter in my copy)and practice as written. Best breaths IMO are after all tied notes and,(obviously)on rests. Try memorizing 2 lines a day, as memorization is proof of learning. Tape record yourself, if possible. Above all, make music and enjoy it.
